How long does it take to become a KY real estate agent?

Online courses are a wonderful option for most people interested in becoming real estate agents. Online courses for Kentucky real estate make becoming a REALTOR® more accessible for those with children, jobs, and other responsibilities.

The average length of time it takes to become a Real Estate agent in Kentucky is between 4-6 months. However, there are many factors that play into this time frame. Becoming a real estate agent is a vehicle in becoming in charge of your own schedule (at most brokerages), and the same goes for the education and startup requirements.

Let’s break it down.

You begin with real estate school. You can choose in-person classes or an online course. An in-person class is going to be scheduled on the teacher’s availability- and if you chose in-person courses, you’d likely finish much faster for that reason. With online courses, most- if not all are self-paced. Some of the online classes may have a time limit on access, but will probably also offer extensions.

For example, the CE-shop offers access for 6 months or 12 months (depending on the course and state), with a 1-month free extension, then a 20% (of original cost) fee for an additional 30-day extension.

Completing online courses can be a task. Those who choose online courses typically are the same people who already have jobs, children, or other things keeping them from committing to the schedule of an in-person class. It takes a lot of discipline to log in every day and do work yourself, without a teacher or other classmates holding you accountable.

Once you finish your real estate education, you have to take and pass the school’s final exam to receive your education certification.

After that, the timeline is really based on financial things.

You’ll need to schedule your state and national exam, an FBI criminal background check, and obtain your transcripts- all of which costs money. When you pass the exam and background check, you’ll need to apply for your license- which costs money. When you get your license and affiliate with a broker, you’ll need to affiliate with NAR and your local MLS, which… you guessed it- costs money.

If you’re not in a place to financially cover these costs, it can take much longer to become a real estate agent. What are ALL the costs involved in becoming a KY agent?
